FINAL ANALYSIS PROMPT
The objective of this paper is to assess the outcome of the negotiation process and the Final Agreement (from the UCI Summit). I would think about writing it in 3 sections: your country's needs and position on climate change (from your presentations); how the accord affects your country's needs; and finally, the accord itself and how it impacts the global community and how effectively it addresses climate change.
You will want to discuss in the analysis paper:
1. What your country needed , how it is impacted (or will be) by climate change (this info should be from your (from your presentations)
2. What your country gave up and succeeded in getting from the agreement to meet the needs listed in #1.
3. How your country's needs were met (or not)?
4. What the global community received in the bargain?
5. How effective is the agreement in tackling climate change? Mitigating GHG emissions? Compare it with the Kyoto Protocol.
6. How equitable is the agreement? Does it deal with adaptation, sustainable development, redistribution of wealth, global marshal plan (type stuff), etc.
7. What are the strengths and deficiencies of the accord? How realistic is it--would your agreement get ratified in the 'real world'-why?
8. What future changes (legal and structural) do you envision as necessary to adequately address climate change--from your country’s perspective.
I would think this will end up 3-5 pages total. It will need to be concise and to the point in answering each question. Don't waste your time with 'setting up the paper', just hit the ground running and follow the above format. It might be easier to think about writing this 8 paragraphs for the 8 questions--although some may be longer, some shorter...but it will help you to keep it concise.
