ISSUE OUTLINE FOR "A STEP BACK"
BOOK I: SEARCH FOR THE "SIGNIFICANCE" IN THE HUMAN EXISTENCE
CHAPTER 1:
Prelude to a Journey|
Disillusionment with the "American
Dream"--Is the "ideal" of American society merely an
illusory promise, one glorified by our insatiable desire for more. Theme: Who am I and Where am I going? |
CHAPTER
2: USA "The essence of life is found in the struggle"| What molds our character, creates our essence?--Breaking free of programmed behavior & confronting the "struggle." It becomes the basis for life; that is, learning and growing.
Opposing Forces of Life and Body: Metaphors of Grand Canyon and Vegas come to represent the experience of life itself as well as our place in it as human beings. The duality of Man--the opposing forces within us or the yin and yang.
No Risk, No Gain--Bet in Vegas becomes a metaphor for the entire trip and exemplifies the theme for spiritual growth. The beginning of our spiritual journey begins ironically in the most material of material worlds. |
CHAPTER
3: Cook Islands "No man can sing a sweeter tune in life than 'no regrets'"| Developing "perspective" is imperative to achieving "happiness"--We must seek contrasts, seek out the differences to gain depth to our experience, and likewise, to our personal growth. "Happiness" is a state of mind integrally related to our perspective of the world around us.
Confrontation of personal "demons" and fear is crucial to understanding your inner self--encounter with sharks on dive. First of many lurid confrontations with the inner doubt and fear within, those "corrosive toxins" which crush our positive state of mind and create a vortex of disillusionment.
American Dream: Does this ultimate goal in American society haplessly induce one to be led by LIFE, rather than the individual leading it. Do the same motivating ideals of the American Dream trap us as human beings?
Cross-Island Trek: Biblical reference to the opening chapters of Genesis--the "Fall of Man." Second metaphorical reference to American society's overt desire to seek "results" over the "means" and giving in to the ignorance of our primitive temptations. Finally, reference to the trials of the journey around the world and continuation of Grand Canyon metaphor--this journey is a giant metaphor for life.
What creates happiness, how do we manifest it in our lives? A heightened sense of perspective helps us appreciate our world and its contents, and with this comes a state of mind conducive to "happiness" |
CHAPTER
4: Fiji "Will we allow our morality, our faith, our commitment, be dictated solely by our pocketbook, or worse, by our fear"How do we know that "life" is real and not illusory?--Theme begins as the first step toward spiritual growth. After the "Fall of Man," (the Trek in Rarotonga) the struggle upward commences.
Does simplicity breed happiness?--Boat ride with Aponu, a simple islander, who exemplifies the purity of simplicity and facilitates a positive state of mind. He represents the purer form of "love"--and that within this state of mind, "happiness" becomes therefore a natural by-product, not contrived.
What is one's responsibility to an overly invasive fellow countrymen? Is a sense of duty owed? Does such a relationship exist amongst members of any nationality?
Vietnam: Introspective discussion on this, the beginning of the end, did this event precipitate the deterioration of American Society? Did it crush the American Way of perseverance and determination to "fight" for freedom? Did it suck the "faith" from our society, our philosophical way of life?
Search for "Faith," search for America's heart and direction--Within a torrential storm I search for direction; first, through faith to extinguish the void within, and second, within America from its ever-growing void. |
CHAPTER 5:
New Zealand "We have become enslaved by that which we've blindly built"Nature vs. Man: What is more real--the sense of freedom experienced in the Tropics or the sense of oppression and programming experienced within the city? This prominent theme begins...and coordinates metaphorically with the natural ebb and flow of human life.
Have we truly progressed as human beings? The effect of technology on society. Does the prodigious advents of technology truly advance the cause of Man or does it rip us away from the elements of our humanity?
What is "being" human? Is it an experience, a state of mind, a host of emotions, or are we just a complex web of cells? Swimming with dolphins helps to answer that question and becomes symbolic of one "feeling" a sense of immortality. How can dolphins generate selflessness in a Darwinian Environment and we cannot? |
CHAPTER
6: New Zealand "Because of this blackness, this suffering, I exist with meaning; because of Nature, I exist because I am"| Amongst the raw untamed force of nature are we most alive? Does nature sing an enticing melody that naturally rejuvenates the human spirit? The dolphins represented this aspect of Nature, and within it, we unexpectedly discovered a sense of "selflessness" emanating from Nature. Is this the element of rejuvenation?
How do we move forward and grip the hand of progress?--A vision of an "ideal" is necessary to establish a collective direction. It fortifies the collective and serves as a spiritual rudder to guide and unify. Nature is this ideal--in its untarnished beauty and purity.
What is the meaning of this "collective"; what is the meaning of this oneness? Indeed, what creates this oneness? Amongst the "Pancake Rocks," discover that technology does little to answer these questions and in fact, it isolates us from the answers.
Does Nature guide us, does it naturally pull us in a direction, do we get swept away in its violent peaks and tides? If we heed this magnetized guide within earth will we become "aware"? Fight between Bren and me accentuates Man's impingement upon Nature, and I realize that we will always suffer in the presence of Nature for we can never be equal to its perfection. It is within this suffering, the confrontation of the "struggle," that one first becomes an "aware" entity.
Man vs. Nature--Part 2: Queenstown becomes the antithesis of Man's intrusion upon Nature, and that with every step in that direction, we naturally lose a precious piece of ourselves as human beings. This becomes the metaphor for my own inner struggle, my imperfection within a world of perfection. My gross intrusion into this link to the divine, merely because Man perceives "control" over Nature. Within the suffering in this imperfection, I find meaning; within this Nature, the light, I find that I am "aware."
Have we given into the path of least resistance? Is it now evident in our societal slouch toward conformity? Have modern relationships merely become another sign of our fear to confront the "struggle" and to so consistently slide away from those situations which cause us pain. |
CHAPTER
7: Australia "Apathy now controls us, it's our plague; it will devour America's soul."| Has it become necessary to review and possibly alter the U.S. Constitution to conform more to today's standards? Has it become necessary to forcefully impart the social "change" that’s necessary into the fading scene of politics? Does apathy blind us to the path of our country?
Have "we the people" given control to a "mindless" few, thereby rendering democracy ineffectual? Have we subverted the sacred principles of Justice, Democracy, and Family? Are we going to judge our growth, our advancement, as a nation by only an economic standard?
Does the growth of interpersonal relationships have much to do with "love"? Or as you "suffer" to grow together does "love" become a natural by-product? Fight with Bren highlights our path together, the painful side to interpersonal relationships--my struggle with the bestial side of being human. Personal decision to confront my Darwinian nature and conquer my innate impulses and primal desires.
Discussion with Edel (restaurant owner) on WWII from an Aussie perspective. America comes to the aid of the Aussies and a friendship is born not only between countries but also between its people.
Is our purpose here to learn from this nature, to be selfless in giving back to the collective? What is our responsibility to each other as human beings? Specifically, what is our responsibility, as human beings, to understand the atrocities committed by our country against other human beings? Within these questions, another is answered for, as one becomes "aware," one naturally feels a sense of "responsibility" for that awareness. |
CHAPTER
8: Australia "We are all the same first, and different second"Haunted Hotel: Metaphorical "ghosts" cast a haunting vision of the world around us. Run into Jim Morrison-type apparition, who warns of our future. A foreboding sense of the world as it wallows in this distorted vision.
Racism in America and OZ: Does America personify the problems of race for the entire world--and if we can resolve them, so can we all? Personally confronting the demons of racism.
Is America Deteriorating from Within? Has America become soulless? A personal pinnacle moment of truth, I am beginning to "see" America in a state of reality, and it's painful. This pain is resounding and forces me to another cross-roads: to avoid this reality or bear the pain to confront it. I realize that a large piece of the "significance" in being human lies in this lurid confrontation...for us all.
Are we as humans causing or at least contributing to the decay of the Environment? Do we care so little for our own planet and in particular, the devastation to the rainforests--"Cassowary Effect" we ignorantly alter habitats and eco-systems. Taking individual responsibility for this effect, I understand that to grow is to suffer, to bear the pain and confront the oft-times horrid actions of human beings and/or the dark inner self. By confronting both, my life develops naturally a sense of meaning, a depth, and purpose--it develops significance. |
CHAPTER
9: Australia "We are all One"What is Destiny? Red Rock of Uluru becomes a metaphor for "meeting one's destiny." The experience emotes a raw mixture of feelings as one stands before this magical crossroad.
|
How Facing your fear fosters growth It shapes the character of your being and establishes your direction in life. "Fear and doubt are the corrosive toxins which prevent and inhibit personal growth." Exemplified exponentially as we climb the Pemberton Tree in an attempt to conquer our fear of heights.
|
Are we, as humans, dancing along a devolving path? Are we minding a futureless Way? What will happen when we painfully realize that we had placed so much of our "faith" into technology and materialism when the situation called for us to peer inside for the strength to move upward?
|
What is it to live in or experience freedom? Search for Whales becomes a metaphor for search for ultimate freedom of the soul. This "freedom" of human expression is part of the significance in being human. Introduction to spiritual side of journey--and foreshadow of future of trip.
Do coincidences exist? Run into couple previously met in NZ, 4,000 miles away and in a remote location. Understand that life holds very few coincidences and from this we are inspired into a magical spiritual connection. Is this further evidence of our interconnectedness, the oneness of our entire planet? Are our rivers to the sea often intertwined with other rivers?
What is the significance in being human?
3 elements stand out within a state of hyper-reality (an intense feeling of
inner self) that creates an interlocking matrix of
"awareness": 1) Different aspects of our life are
interconnected--facing our fears and demons therefore becomes crucial
(Sharks and Pemberton Tree); 2) No coincidences exist, for all of us
are intertwined with one another (Aponu, Jay and Lisa); 3) Man is connected
inextricably with Nature (Red Rock, Wave Rock, dolphins, and Whales).
All is One. |
*** End of Book I ***
BOOK II: THE SEARCH FOR "FAITH"
CHAPTER 1
0: Indonesia "Race relations is the single largest factor creating the chaos in US"| Developing "awareness" is to shed your perceptions for a deeper "truth"--enlightenment is the drive to discover this deeper "truth." The O.J. Simpson case (Race) becomes a metaphor for shedding perception for a deeper, more meaningful truth. The more "aware" one is, the more "significant" they'll feel.
|
Mystical
Bali: Theft of our bags including my hand-written journal detailing the trip
(350 pages) "coincidentally" after completing. Sets the stage for
spiritual awakening. | |
|
In America, are we what we do? Does our occupation define our being? Problems with the US Embassy highlight this important ruling force in American society. |
CHAPTER
1
| Does "fate" truly exist? Is it a pulling force in the Universe? "Strange" feelings whisk us along in search of the journal. | |
|
Mystical Bali--Part 2: Go to Clairvoyant to determine whereabouts of stolen bags (important journal). Sets the stage for spiritual awakening. because it requires giving up the logical, the rationale and confronting the unknown, the unseen.
|
Does God provide actual "tests" for our undertaking? Is this influenced by our personal growth experiences in past lives? Clairvoyant explains my situation relative to these profound questions in our existence. |
CHAPTER 1
2: Indonesia "Reincarnation, could well provide the means of our spiritual evolution"|
Search
for Stolen Journal: If we can lend credence to her explanations on journal, then
logically does for my "test" as well.
|
Is
reincarnation the cornerstone of our learning in this realm? Is our
purpose here merely to find "peace and happiness"? Discussion of God, spirituality,
reincarnation--logically. Theme:
Sets up the
search for my purpose which coincides with my destiny--that which I am being
tested by God (and understanding my relationship with Him).
Can spiritual forces, or unseen forces within the universe, intervene in this plane? Saved from drowning at Kuta Beach?
|
Mystical
Bali--Part 3: Based on
clairvoyant's instructions, we "coincidentally"
run into person who stole our bags & one who possessed them. |
CHAPTER
1
|
Mystical Bali--Part 4: Witness a motorbike accident while driving and stop to help the wounded and another odyssey ensues.
Have we become less caring, less humane in modern times, or do we inherently have an apathetic view of human life? Discuss the callousness of human nature and our predisposition to overtly neglect others. Am I my brother's keeper?
What is the responsibility of the stronger to the weaker? What is America's responsibility to the rest of the world? Discussion with Aussie business man in SE Asia whether we as the western powers emasculate and plunder the third-world. Is it naive to think that human beings will change, they can become stronger and more "aware."
|
Does pure, absolute ‘faith’ truly exist? Faith necessitates reciprocation; otherwise, it wilts and dies with time. "We can become with faith, a spiritual energy of purity and without it, animals roaming a planet selfishly consumed with our own personal plight." |
CHAPTER 1
4: Indonesia "In America, the foundational key to society is sadly, money"|
Is money now the foundation of American society? Contrasted with the ways of the Balinese where "family" is the basis for their society. Is our foundation now shaking, crumbling before our very eyes.
|
Mystical
Bali--Part 5: Holyfield-Tyson
fight on a tiny island off the coast of Lombok Island--local's view of chaotic America.
Boxing match becomes a symbol of America staining its purity.
|
Mystical Bali--Part 6: Korean girl goes "crazy" in the middle of the street claiming she's possessed and she slaps a police officer attempting to control her. I reach out to her when no one else would--embraced her and created a bond of our humanity.
|
Do we desire to discover, to
touch a deep, profound sense of contentment and satisfaction? If so,
then we need to accept responsibility for others as the beginning step
because it builds "faith" in ourselves, each other and
humanity. Exemplified by comforting the Korean girl--and again
touching the "significance" of being
human. |
CHAPTER 15:
Indonesia "It's so utterly painful to observe the path of gross destruction we have chosen"|
Mystical Bali--Part 7: Return to clairvoyant for spiritual "cleansing" where she provides more details to my previous incarnations.
|
America's path is clearly destructive, filled with decay on a myriad of levels. This "truth" now haunts me, and I sense for the first time my destiny...to write the words of change. To confront the ugly truth, the struggle. The Pemberton Tree rises again before me.
|
Do our souls understand the plan, our responsibility before the mind? Is it that we just don't trust this intangible path because it has been openly illuminated yet and those "corrosive toxins" then take hold? Discussion on my path of conscious choice, ruled however, by an unseen, intangible force. Is that possible?
|
Mystical
Bali--Part 8: Another theft as we
traveled through Bali. A deeper lesson on "faith" as it is tested once again.
"Faith" cannot be compelled, rather it must be
searched for and found through the introspective fires of trial and error.
Blind "faith" is only hope.
|
Are our thoughts and interconnectedness energy? Do they abide by the universal laws of physics? We can create a spiritual force toward affecting others, their energy, and if concentrated, this awesome energy can be focused to create a "Oneness." This creative force is within us all, and ironically, our essence, our truly tangible being, may indeed consist of the intangible, unseen by us in our present state.
|
Is it possible that the more we embrace the earth and each other, the higher we ascend back to God? Pilgrimage up the steep rocky edges of the active volcano, Mt. Bromo, to watch the sunrise. The cycle of life continues, that with "awareness" and "faith" I move onward and upward to the heavens above. |
CHAPTER 16: Malaysia "Human expression is the shining beacon which illuminates our path to understanding the struggle of life"
Buddhism, Taoism and Confucianism: Meet Buddhist monk who is "unbalanced" and in search of a deeper "truth." We discuss philosophy as he recognizes my search, and expresses that one must learn to trust in the "underlying pattern of the universe." A theme which permeates the remainder of the journey as an integral part of "faith."
What is religion? If we remove the "religious" distinction from these long-standing doctrines and attempt to understand them merely as ideologies, then it permits us to analyze their "truth" without being consumed with distorted human emotions.
Is pain and suffering necessary in this realm of existence? Is it possible that we as souls must experience this suffering, this pain, in order to grow, and this is one of the primary reasons for the creation of the earthly plane, for it by its very nature creates our own personal Pemberton Tree?
Underlying Pattern Revealed: The Monk seems to follow in our footsteps "teaching" me to trust in the "underlying pattern," showing me the "Way" in small examples.
Overpopulation: who's problem is it? Are we citizens of the world or merely of a country? As we have doubled the population of the globe in a mere thirty years, where will this end--where we come up with the resources to clothe, feed and shelter these mouths of the future?
Path of Spiritual Path emerging--the underlying pattern? From passing a homeless, penniless man on the streets, I see myself within him. The anguish and suffering is part of this existence, I know it and yet turn my back unable to hold the reflective gaze of the walls of the Grand Canyon. |
CHAPTER 17:
Thailand "The more I see, the more I experience, the more I realize I don't know"
Underlying Pattern Revealed--Part 2: Restaurant owner invites us to his place. We must learn to trust after being ripped off twice--must have "faith" in people, "faith" in the good. Lesson also teaches us the strong position the U.S. has in the world, we are the "big brother"--and as such what is our responsibility?
Does the pattern illustrate where to search, where to find the initial whispers of faith? Ride through a torrential storm in long-tail boat the trust in the "underlying pattern of the universe" begins--and I'm not trying to control all. Ironically, when you release control, you find direction.
Underlying Pattern Revealed--Part 3: The face of Nature reveals itself and see myself as a reflection. No longer at odds with this side of the universe, I felt the interconnectedness with earth as in Oz but now with my place in it. Another example of the ebb and flow of life--Nature vs. Man is part of the "struggle" that is the essence of life. Bren meets this confrontation and perseveres this time.
Is American culture truly concerned with achieving a sense of "happiness"? If so, then not only is our rash and impulsive behavior creating a nasty gyre of unhappiness, but it negates our "significance" as human beings.
Is spiritual love derived from an acceptance of responsibility--does it establish meaning? Beginning to come to terms with the underlying pattern within me; as I accept its influence, I feel a deepened sense of love and compassion. The more I release control, the more I find my direction; and the more I understand, the more confused I become. Is this meaning? |
CHAPTER
18: Thailand "I sipped from the goblet of life, I tasted its delicate sweetness, and its blood now flows through my veins"
Do we somehow become more by being selfless? Did the dolphins of Kaikoura understand this universal law? From this reflection of Nature, I discover a newfound awareness, in accepting the responsibility for this awareness and selflessly giving of my spirit, it is freed. I am free. I feel this beginning just as the beginning of Man and with this realization, I know that for every Action there is reaction felt somewhere in the universe.
Underlying Pattern Revealed--Part 4: Meet another Buddhist Monk in Bangkok. We discuss Buddhism further, karma and our cyclical lives. He sees my destiny, and imparts more philosophical wisdom.
What is the current role of religion in the world? Do the differing religions of the world, actually create one--just as we are all different, yet the same? Do we seek to give back to "God" or merely take from this relationship--are we too primitive to be able to offer a selfless reciprocation?
Has America destroyed, one of the world's greatest cultures--the Native American? On trek through hill tribes of N. Thailand, I see the destruction of the American Indian and their proud heritage and wonder if this will be America's mark on history to emasculate the vulnerable, all in the misguided hope of sustaining its material world. Doesn't this coincide with the "Fall of Man"?
Can democracy lead the world into a new age of spiritual freedom? Trekking group must decide together whether to give "candy" to the village children. The countries of the world clash but reach a decision founded upon democracy.
Does the "golden intent" transcend the Darwinian human? By following the "golden intent"--that is give back without regard to the personal benefit, one causes others in the group receiving this gift to acknowledge the Act, and with the "magical circle" is created. My personal demons are confronted and through a selfless Act achieved with the "golden intent," I am freed from the shackles of this physical realm. |
CHAPTER 19: Nepal "America is no longer a country by the people, for the people"
Trials of Nepal: Rickshaw ride from airport through the appalling squalor of Kathmandu. Old, impecunious man freely offers a bottle of water to quench my thirst.
What is our responsibility, as common souls, to those with such disparate lives? "Is this our skeleton ship sailing the rolling seas ignorant of our heavenly destination?" A profound sense of unworthiness creeps into my soul for such patent ignorance.
Trials of Nepal II: Indian Embassy deliberately mismarks our visas giving us only 2 days in India. For the second time, the US embassy is unhelpful, which snaps clarity to Bren's vision of America--America is no longer ours. She sees the decay and is torn.
Why does such profound injustice and inequity exist? Awareness is brought alive by meeting with Nepalese boys--we "feel" deeply the injustice and inequity in this world. Once this ignorance is stripped, the suffering ensues again, but yet with it I feel a sense of liberation. Application of the Buddhist paradigm, but also question whether this is the "end," our ultimate purpose? |
CHAPTER
20:
Nepal
"Where
the heart wills, the impossible becomes only a state of mind"
Trials of Nepal III: Struggles with a perfect Nature reflecting my imperfections occurs again as we contemplate the Trek into the Himalayas and into the jagged teeth of the monsoon. Strange Bali-like "feeling" that despite the monsoon and not a sign of the mountains, that it will miraculously clear for us at the top.
Trials of Nepal IV: Battle with leaches upon our bodies after first day of trekking; metaphor for the material world striking out against the spiritual world within me.
Do I, as an American in the land of blissful abundance, steal from the land, from this world, at the expense of others? In a rush of conflicts that have been building since the "case," I am confronted by my soul to "see" the essence of my being, and I am left with the challenge of what will I give up to discover this faith?
Does America take advantage of the other weaker nations of the world, mainly for our own economic advantage? In a twisted example, Fight with overbearing Israelis on PLO and America's involvement. Bren's sees the "truth" about US and feels deeply the pain of its direction--America is lost.
Climax of A Step Back coincides with the climax of the trek to Annapurna Base Camp. It becomes a divine revelation of "faith." The "underlying pattern" has led me to find "Mary's faith" and "see" a vision of my "essence," my basic composition. In this discovery, the elements (from chapter 9) of "awareness," our interconnectedness, play out as such: The spirit must first seek the truth, the mind must envision the truth, and then it must build upon it using the disciplined free will of the body. Our personal growth, therefore, hinges upon the application of this truth, by bringing the spiritual into the material. |

BOOK
III:
THE SEARCH FOR "DESTINY"
CHAPTER
Dastardly Day in Delhi--One steamy bewildering day in India leaves us emotionally frazzled and tittering on the edge of sanity. But from this insane world, the raw emotions put in perspective these lost worlds within our world.
Discussion with Masai tribe member: Discuss family and tribal customs with one who has transitioned into the modern world.
Safari at Masai Mara Reserve--the openness, the freedom, and the awesome display of the crisp brutality within the animal kingdom. The cycles of life are so apparent and enduring, where one animal uses another, and even feeds on another, with purpose. An inherent logic lost on American society.
Does American society prostitute their children to maintain the economic empire? For the children are, contrary to Nature, placed on the outside of an otherwise natural ring of protection--the family. In America, the "family," the ideal and societal base, has been sold to maintain the material magic bubble. Even worse, to cover this glaring void, the meaning of "marriage" has been destroyed for the vows of matrimony presently ring achingly hollow, the commitment silent, and the kiss poisoned.
Has America become the Vulture comfortably atop the carcass, wildly fluttering its wings and asserting its dominance, and further plunging its ever-stretching neck into world, taking as it desires? In this thought, I begin to uncover the pain and suffering within the oneness--in this world's oft-horrifying reality. Little homeless boy offers insight into his world, his misery; and for the first time along the journey, I accept. So, now the beauty and madness of this world are both exposed within my mind and spirit. From this eye-popping perspective I see America. |
CHAPTER 22: South Africa "I cling to that which I have discovered, I cling to faith and its tentacles of life, for I now understand that my life is merely a reflection of what I seek"
Recognize the "underlying pattern" by watching fluttering newspaper--Within this simple event lay the pattern for I've caught a glimpse beneath the mechanized world littered with associations, labels and prejudices to see the beauty of the world beneath. Simplify thought and build toward those personal "ideals" through the application of these rudimentary thoughts.
Is America a place of "means" but devoid of meaning? For America has become a place that fails to see its collective ignorance—for it fails to even catch a glimmer of this most basic awareness. And from this basic awareness, we then begin to see the "pattern" designed for us to enlighten our path.
What is the end to America's Gun Madness? Conversation with business man in Jo'burg, who totes a gun every where, in constant fear; his life controlled by the fear of other's actions or even potential actions. Is this the future of America? Has the NRA blatantly misused the US Constitution? What was the intent of the founders in the Second Amendment's right to bear arms?
Is it, we the people that are the crux of the gun epidemic, rather than the guns themselves? Must we first alter the state of mind that moves an individual to so flippantly exercise his or her free will in such a destructible force, and only then can we address the "right" to own such a weapon.
Discussion on the impact of Apartheid, which becomes a metaphor for the path of humanity. Widowed woman puts us up for the night and she explains this issue and humanity's direction. She helps me to accept the "pattern," that the events of the trip haven't been coincidental, and I behold my river of destiny for the first time in a transcendent experience.
Does America have a specific spiritual purpose? Do these patterns within us contribute to our oneness, and if so, do they lead us away from the tragic moment of our "fall" from divinity--is this also America's role? For now, America is laded with shackled spirits programmed to believe that they can control their world, their truth, their reality. However, it is illusory; we are sold the American Dream to keep us as fleshy puppets hypnotically seduced to continue to build the crystal empire--to perpetuate this insanity. I see the newspaper dancing, and I realize that I must be utterly insane in this ever maddening world. |
